If there is one thing you can do to reduce chemical exposure in the bedroom, it is to switch your laundry products to Free and Clear, or detergents only scented with essential oils. This is certainly a top tip for a healthy bedroom.
Free and clear products are free of perfumes and dyes.
Why would you want to breathe 2-butanone, acetate, alpha-Pinene, and more all night? 2-butanone is a suspected kidney, reproductive, respiratory, skin, gastrointestinal, liver, cardiovascular and blood toxicant. It’s also a neurotoxicant (meaning it can affect your central nervous system). The reproductive toxicant part means that it can affect your hormones, and cause fertility problems, including lowering sperm counts.
According the the Environmental Protection Agency, some laundry dyes may cause cancer or other adverse health effects in humans.
If you want a scent, add a few drops of pure essential oil of lavender to the rinse water in the laundry. Or, make a DIY Lavender Water for Linens.
