One of the more popular questions I get asked when on the Martha Stewart Whole Living sirius radio cleaning call-in that I do once a month, is what is the healthiest way to add a bit of scent and air freshening?
Lemons are acidic and work like vinegar to clean, neutralizing alkaline odors. Because of lemons’ acidity and their light and refreshing scent, they work wonders as a simmering air freshener. Especially as I write now, in deep winter. The color alone is brightening!
The project couldn’t be easier. Simply slice two lemons into about six coin-shaped pieces each, and place in a pan filled with 8 cups of water. Bring to a boil and then reduce the heat and simmer for a few hours, replacing the water as needed.
